Evaluation studies of educator evaluation systems can
- provide feedback on implementation,
- support continuous improvement, and
- increase understanding of evaluation systems’ impact on teaching and learning.
Although crucial for strengthening evaluation systems, these studies can be challenging to design and can be costly.
The Center on Great Teachers and Leaders offers two new resources to help states identify appropriate research designs and sustainable funding sources for studying educator evaluation systems:
Policy Snapshot–Evaluating Evaluation Systems: Policy Levers and Strategies for Studying Implementation of Education Evaluation | February 2015
Why should legislators and policymakers care about evaluation implementation studies? This brief explains their importance and shares successful funding strategies from states and districts.
Ask the Team Brief–Get the Information You Need: How to Design Educator Evaluation Studies for Continuous Improvement | February 2015
Collecting ongoing feedback and evaluating evaluation system impact is crucial for keeping the system appropriate, meaningful, and informative for all educators. In this brief, GTL draws on reports from 13 states that have already undertaken educator evaluation studies, and highlights strategies and examples for designing your own evaluation study as part of a continuous improvement process. State education centers, regional centers, and school districts in particular will benefit from these strategies and tips.
