The New Teacher Project has changed its official name to its acronym, TNTP, and has announced several other important changes to the organization.
Launched in 1997, TNTP has expanded its partnerships and training to 20 cities across the country, and has trained more than 46,000 new teachers. However, given the current educational climate, TNTP has been addressing issues that face all educators, not just new educators. Thus, they have added the tagline “Reimagine Teaching,” which reflects the multifaceted focus of the “new” TNTP.
The main purpose of the organization, though, will remain preparing new teachers for the classroom. Effective teachers certified via TNTP’s program will be part of the TNTP Academy, which is authorized to certify teachers in seven states plus the District of Columbia.
TNTP’s website has also been redesigned and re-launched. The site is now a “hub for new ideas and innovations for improving teacher effectiveness.” Publications are easier to find and access and will also feature Spotlights, similar to those produced by Education Week, that will feature articles from various sources on specified topics.
