A new suite of teacher leadership self-assessment and readiness tools have been designed for teachers exploring leadership opportunities and leaders considering teacher leadership initiatives. Developed in collaboration and consultation with the Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Midwest Educator Effectiveness Research Alliance, REL Midwest, and the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders (GTL Center), the tools are based on a review of the teacher leadership literature and stakeholder input.
Teachers can use the Teacher Leadership: Teacher Self-Assessment Tool to assess their level of readiness for being a teacher leader and to develop a plan to prepare themselves for leadership positions. The tool allows for self-assessment in the following four areas:
- Collaboration and Communication
- Professional Learning and Growth
- Instructional Leadership
- School Community and Advocacy
District and school administrators can use the Teacher Leadership: District and School Leader Readiness Tool to gauge how well their school systems have the necessary training, support, and culture to facilitate the identification and ongoing development of teacher leaders. This tool focuses on the following areas:
- Culture and Context
- Roles and Responsibilities
- Systems and Structures
