The Center on Great Teachers and Leaders combines the efforts of three education organizations: American Institutes for Research (AIR), Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), and Public Impact. They are dedicated to supporting state education leaders in their efforts to grow, respect, and retain great teachers and leaders for all students. The GTL Center continues the work of the National Comprehensive Center for Teacher Quality (TQ Center) and expands its focus to provide technical assistance and online resources designed to build systems that:
• Support the implementation of college and career standards.
• Ensure the equitable distribution of effective teachers and leaders.
• Recruit, retain, reward, and support effective educators.
• Develop coherent human capital management systems.
• Create safe academic environments that increase student learning through positive behavior management and appropriate discipline.
• Use data to guide professional development and improve instructional improvement.

While you’re there, see the newly released Special Issues Brief: Inclusive Design: Building Teacher Evaluation Systems That Support Students With Disabilities.
To assist states in making thoughtful policy decisions, the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders developed this special issues brief to provide states with considerations, resources, and state and district case studies about including teachers of students with disabilities and specialized instructional support personnel within performance evaluation systems. All considerations and examples are intended as resources to stimulate discussion. The considerations provided could be modified based on the needs, culture, climate, and context of school districts.

In addition, there is a new Webinar Series: Measuring Student Growth in Nontested Subjects and Grades
In collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE), GTL has developed a three-part webinar series on measuring growth in nontested subjects and grades. Each webinar focuses on a single, specific measurement approach and includes presentations by GTL Center experts as well as states that are actually using the approach in the field. Topics are as follows: (1) schoolwide growth measures, (2) student learning objectives, and (3) building or buying assessments. Access slides and audio recordings of the webinars on the U.S. Department of Education’s technical assistance webpage.
In addition, Ask the Team briefs explore key examples and strategies compiled in response to great questions and information requests. Recently, the briefs focused on providing evaluation system training and using peer observers in teacher evaluation.
