Mass Insight Education (MIE) has launched a multi-month Turnaround Forum, consisting of weekly blog posts, biweekly email blasts, and monthly issue briefs on topics of importance in the turnaround field. MIE invites all stakeholders interested in school turnarounds to subscribe to the new and improved blog, “In the Zone,” for regular updates on their work.
“In the Zone” will also feature commentary from some of MIE’s partners and colleagues engaged in the challenging work of school turnaround. The first brief, Successful Principals Speak Out, is currently available in the forum. Furthermore, the biweekly e-blast will provide updates on new information from MIE’s School Turnaround Group (STG) and developments, publications, and notable news in the turnaround field.
The goal for this forum is to provide a platform for discussion around the thorny issues that we face, celebrate the success stories that are occurring across the country, and broaden the conversation around what still needs to be done to dramatically improve, at scale, student achievement in the country’s lowest-performing schools.
Current topics in the forum include reflections on Boston Public Schools’ progress in education reform and the recent decision by Education Achievement Authority, a group authorized by the state of Michigan, to turn around 15 Detroit schools through greater school autonomy, longer school days/year, and boosting the teacher workforce.
