February 14th, President Obama made his education budget request for Fiscal Year 2012. The New America Foundation’s Federal Education Budget Project Summary and Analysis explains the president’s request. This brief covers key education proposals, including:
- Increases in funding for K-12 programs, such as ESEA Title I and special education grants;
- Program consolidations for reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act; and
- The Pell Grant Protection Act, which would boost funding for the program but makes targeted cuts to other higher education assistance.
This analysis is clearly written and easier to follow than the budget request itself.
Don’t get too excited, though. The budget numbers represented in this analysis are only requested numbers. Congress still has much work to do on the 2012 budget before it is approved.
