Well-known Stanford education reformer Dr. Linda Darling-Hammond has recently launched a new think tank to help reform American education, with a focus on deeper learning to equip students for the 21st century economy. The Learning Policy Institute has the backing of many large donors and has other notable education leaders on board, including Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Dr. Kris Gutierrez.
In addition to the focus on deeper learning, the Learning Policy Institute comes on the scene at an important time for issues related to accountability and assessment. It is positioning itself to provide assistance to states should Congress reauthorize ESEA and give more agency to states in governing education policy.

The Learning Policy Institute will have offices in Palo Alto, CA as well as Washington D.C.
